The Last Whisper

The year was 1854. The month, September. I was ordered to be a medical officer in British fleet when we joined forces with the French army to invade the Russians as they had occupied territories in the Crimea that had previously been controlled by Turkey. After the Russians destroyed the Turkish fleet at Sinope in the Black Sea in November 1853, Britain and France joined the war against Russia. I was nervous as it was my first deployment.
I arrived near Sevastopol, on the 14th September. With shaking hands I walked out of the ship and was asked to proceed to the nearest hospital, where I would be for the next, well I did not really know. As I walked into the hospital, I was appalled by the condition. I put on a strong face and made my way in.
"Doctor! We need a doctor!" soon became a sentence I grew accustomed to. I provided my services with a smile on face. I heard many stories from my fellow country men about how the situation was like outside there. Some of them may look strong but they often broke down when they spoke of their loved ones. I've never been in love you see. I had devoted my entire life to my country. If I did fall in love, I could not bear to see the hurt in her eyes when I left. I always would imagine the fear she would feel when I left to serve. How is that love when all you are doing is hurting the person you love?
I still remember that morning very well. I was bandaging a soldiers leg when I heard her voice. It was so soft I could have missed it. "Help him, please!" she cried out. I tried to get a glimpse of her, but I could not. All I managed to see was her shadow being dragged away by me fellow soldiers. That whole night, her voice kept on playing in my head. I tried to brush it by saying I will never see her again, but who was I kidding, she was stuck in my head.
I carried on working, secretly hoping I could hear her voice again. With the war getting more intense, my job was not getting easier. Sometimes, I just wanted to return back home. But I made a promise to my country. It did scare me sometimes, the fear of death was inevitable. The condition of the hospitals were not that pleasing as well. The smell of human waste was very strong as they did not have receptacles for waste. Let's not forget the blood stains splattered all over the floor. It was not a good environment for patients to recuperate as there were not enough beds, many had share and the less ill had to lie on floor.
I had been hearing rumors about how something big is gonna happen on the 20th September. The Battle of Alma happened. Together with the French army, we were victorious. The aftermath of that battle was not too bad. However, many were falling ill due to the unsanitary conditions. Within a few weeks an estimated 8,000 men were suffering from Cholera and Malaria. I kept myself busy by treating these patients of mine. Until that day.
I was busy attending to my patient when I felt the softest touch. "Excuse me, please help me" She cried. "My father is dying. I do not know what is wrong with him" I was not allowed to treat the locals. "Where are you from? I asked. Her voice was so familiar, almost like the one I heard the other day. "Turkey" she replied. With that, I knew we both we in danger. Her eyes were filled with hope when she looked at me. I wanted to help her but I knew, I would be putting the both us in hot waters.
"Meet me behind the hospital at 10pm. Bring your father" For a moment, I saw the faintest smile on her. "Oh thank you sir" she said and disappeared like the wind. I was anxiously waiting for her arrival. I was almost amazed by her enthusiasm to get our attention, even though she knew the dangers of it. My mind wondered why she was in Sevastopol. I was about to get my answer. I soon saw a shadow walking towards me. It was her and her father. I rushed to help her carry her father. I laid him down and examined him. "He has malaria" I told her. All the hope I saw in her face was gone. She stood her almost lost. I felt sorry for her. I did the best I can to help them. "If you need more medication, come see me. Wait for me here." I told her. She simply nodded and said thank you and disappeared.
At the start of October, the French and British engineers, moved from their base at Balaclava. I knew things were going to bad. I prepared myself for death. But somehow, I couldn't get her out of my mind. I knew I was never going to see her again as I had been hearing rumours about being asked to move away or about us retreating.
I was prepared until that day. 25th October 1854.
- End of Part 1-
I'm really sorry, but if I were to right the whole story, you'll never see the end of the page! I shall update the second part of the story very soon!

Feed me more Gossip, Dr. House.

Television has been around since 1950's The television of our ancestors were what we would say now as plain boring. Nowadays we turn on our television set and all we see is sex and drama. The argument of television brings more bad than good has haunted me enough.
We all have those shows that we wait for every week, glued to our seats, itching to know what happens to our beloved characters.
I am no stranger to this phenomena. I used to wait every week to see a new episode of House. I can honestly say, watching House made me want to be a doctor so badly. I was so glued to the show till I would grab a pen and paper when it started and write down each symptom as though I was a doctor. I would try to give my own diagnose. Now, I'm no doctor, but thank God for Google right? Dr. House wittiness kept me on the edge of my seat for 8 seasons. When I found out the show was over, I literally shed a tear. I thought to myself, well there goes that 1 hour I used to pretend to be a doctor.
Another show I love would be Gossip Girl. I know what you're thinking, "Oh Gossip Girl? It's basically sex and drama. Well, technically, it is. However, the reason why I love this show is because of one of the characters named Blair Waldrof. Blair, to me, is the ideal woman. She knows how to have fun, but she also knows what she wants in life. I would consider her as one of my role models.
The thing I love about Gossip Girl is that it shows us a glimpse of what it's like living as a socialite.
I would love to live a day in the shoes of Blair Waldrof. I know what you're thinking, "She's fictional" but they it wouldn't hurt to dream right. I actually did try to follow in Blair's footsteps, without the scheming of course (In case you didn't know, Blair is most famous for her elabrote schemes to get what she wants. Yes, she's an evil mastermind)I copied her dressing and the way she talked. It was fun actually being another person. It got me thinking, if I was ever given a chance to be Blair Waldrof for a day, I would be walking in Gucci shoes, planning a deceiving scheme to get the guy I like to magically fall in love with me and banish the girl I hate to Iceland.Oh, wait, I already did that. In my dreams.
So my whole point of this post is that, television isn't really bad, just like any other forms of media, it allows you to escape your miserable reality for a bit and pretend to be someone else. We always find amusement in other people's problems, which is why shows like The Walking Dead and Gossip Girl are doing so well. Let's face it, watching other people be more messed up than we are gives us a little hope. Television also cultivates your perception of things. For an instance, a socialite is basically a spoiled brat who gets everything she wants. Just like the Cultivation Theory suggests.
So the next time someone tells you that television is bad, tell them that they haven't seen nothing yet. Then plan your scheme to take them down.

Dream Big, baby.

Dreams. I know every single one of us, young or old has them. My dream you ask? I have plenty of dreams. Most of the are unrealistic. But hey, that is why their called dreams right?
My biggest dream is to travel the world. To visit every single country I can. But travelling alone is never enough for me, I need a challenge. I would start by going to KLIA and stand in front of the departure board, close my eyes and point to a destination. And fly there. Which means I could literally end up anywhere! However, to travel the world, I obviously would need cash. Loads and loads of mula. How in the world am I supposed to get that?
Each country I go to, there would be certain challenges I have to face. I have to complete these challenges in order to move on with my journey. If I fail, it's a direct flight back to KL. If I complete the challenge, I would then get money and travel again. Of course, the challenges will not be easy, but they should show me how the locals live. In this way, I not only get to visit a beautiful country but I also get to experience the culture. But just to make things interesting, if there is a challenge that requires me to face my fear, which is those cold blooded, slithering snakes, I would get first class tickets and more money for the next country.
If I some how magically managed to finish travelling to every country I can possibly fly to, when I reach back to KL, I would find my favourite singer standing there with a bouquet of roses, waiting for me. (It is a dream after all)
This dream could actually become a reality. If I could make it into a reality tv show.
Another dream I've had is to a billionaire, just for a day. I've always wondered how the life's of superstars were. Swimming that pool of money. I don't want to be a billionaire for my whole life, I just want to get the taste of it. I would love to spend a day in the shoe's of Nicki Minaj. Not because of her money but because of her craziness! How in the world am I going to make this dream come true you ask? Simple. Again. Reality tv.
Imagine a bunch of girls all competing for the grand prize which is to live a day as Nicki Minaj.(Yes, pink hair is included.)
But then again, for dreams to become reality, lots of hard work is required. I shall persevere though! Cause I want that pink hair!

Going Places thanks to a magazine.

I love to travel. I would say it's one of my passions. To me, long flights that make your feet fall asleep a countless amount of times is worth it because you get to, well, fly a few thousand meters above sea level. I would like to ask you question though. What is the first thing you do when you are seated in your seat on the plane? Perhaps look at what is being served later or scan through the movie collection on your portable player?
The first thing I do is, look for the in flight magazine. I know what you are thinking. "In flight magazines are so boring and just are filled with pictures" I agree some in flight magazines are a pure torture to read which is why most of us choose to ignore it but some are really interesting. I'll be honest with you and say this, in flight magazines was what sparked my interest to become a travel writer. Half of the places that I have visited is because of an in flight magazine. I would have never visited a restaurant that looked
As an avid traveler, I rely a lot on reviews. Most in flight magazines provide an inside to the destination you are heading to. Others review on other fascinating places around the world. I have learnt a lot from these magazines. The do's and don'ts in certain countries, what to eat, how to get around, the tricks the locals use to con us and so on.
I can say that I've flew in a few airlines. Which means, I have read quite a few different in flight magazines. I'll be honest again and say that one of the most boring in flight magazine I've read is "Travel 3sixty" which can be found in Air Asia. I'm not saying it's bad, all I'm saying is, being one of the best low cost carrier in the Asia, you think they would put more effort into publishing a magazine. I would not entirely blame them though, I guess their strategy is to focus on countries in this region. There are reviews on countries outside of this continent but they pop up once in a blue moon. When I read a review, I mostly look for the writer's experience, not the history of the place. That is the one thing that this magazine lacks besides of the fact that 75% of the entire magazine is filled with ads. Again, I don't blame them as in flight magazines provide a great platform for advertisers.
What is my favourite in flight magazine you ask? Open Skies would be my answer. Open Skies is the in flight magazine for Emirates Airlines. The reason why I love this magazine is that unlike other magazines, it's sassy. That's right, this magazine has attitude. Even their ads are so well placed, you can't help but to read it. Their reviews are not restricted to a certain region too. There is also this section that I love reading which is called "My Traveled Life" which is written either by someone famous or by any normal person. It's basically where you give your opinion on a country about the people, the future and so on. I love reading it because it's sort of like a spoken review. The writer just writes about he felt while he was in that country. I also love that little cartoon they put at the bottom of the page, it's so adorable, you can't help but smile even though your legs are probably cramp thanks to the long flight.
The pictures in this magazine not only show you the beauty of the country, but also the way the people live their lives. And to me, that is how a review should be, to show not only what the visitors see, but what the locals see everyday. Even though Open Skies can only be found in Emirates, I actually google search for it every month just to see this month's copy.
Many people over look in flight magazines because they feel their just published for a certain category of people. Truth is, they cater to everyone! You can actually learn a lot from it. I for one have learnt about different cultures, how to survive in another country with a low budget and how to write reviews that amuse people. I definitely have to thank Open Skies for getting me interested in travel writing!
So next time you board a plane, make sure to pick up the in flight magazine and be surprised with the content! I'm sorry this post is lengthy, I just had so much to say about this!

Lights, Camera, Action!

So, we recently found out that for our assignment, we are required to make a 10 minute short video based on mixed genre of comedy and drama. Oh the joy I felt when I heard that. I wouldn't say that making videos is a passion of mine, I would consider it more as a hobby I take very, very seriously. So serious that I attended classes (well, technically it was for photography) I did, however join a national level video competition and did quite well I might add. I did attend a few video making classes. No, I'm not trying to say I have the upper hand here, all I'm saying is, I ENJOY MAKING VIDEOS.
You see, I find it very fascinating to bring an idea in your head to life. Every single word written in the script can be portrayed so precisely by the talent on screen. The ability to make the viewer laugh and cry truly is an interesting experience.
I got my team together and we got right into script writing. What is our video about you ask? The videos I've made in the past were all about touching that sensitive side of the viewer but this time, I choose something I was not so familiar with, just to spice things up. Yes, we are given the genre already, but when it comes to mix genres, you get to choose which side you want to lean towards to. I chose to lean towards the comedy part. Why? well, I wanted to make my fellow classmates and whoever that watches this video to escape their crazy world for just 10 minutes and just laugh!
Our video is based on the movie "Ocean's Eleven" That's right, we're robbing from someone. However, not everything you plan always falls into place right? That's the direction we're going for. The reason why I chose to do this video was because I always had an admiration of the way Ocean's Eleven was shot. The way the script was written, that little twist of the story always gives me the impression that nothing is like what it seems. I'm not going to give a lot away because I like suspense.
All I can say is, you guys are in for a treat because I am blessed with a great cast! We will play with loads of camera angles too. Mainly because we want to make a quality video. Camera angles to me, help rely the message I want to send. It makes conveying the emotion easier too. All I know is, we will definitely have fun doing this assignment!

Newspaper anyone?

I presume everyone of us has read a newspaper at least once in their life right? Some people can't even start their day without flipping through the newspaper with a cup of coffee by their side. I'm not going to deny that newspapers are a source of information. But there's more to it than what's going on locally and internationally.
My favourite part of the newspaper is the travel reviews. As travelling is one of my passions, I would desperately flip through the pages just to see what new places I can travel to. Some writers really know how to capture your mind by words. The way they describe the places just make them seem irresistible.
Another one more favourite column of mine is the "Dear Thelma" In case some one of you are still clueless, this column is where readers can send it their problems in hopes of getting advice from Thelma. Why do I enjoy reading it? Well, I can't really say it relates to me, but sometimes I would try to solve the problem. I would think, "If I was in this situation what would I do?" However, some situations are too complicated to be true. Reading these kind of articles kinda makes you appreciate that you're not so messed up as you think you are.
Anyways, even though the internet is pretty much the new everything, some people just love the feeling of holding (and even smelling) a newspaper. It has a little bit of everything for every one.

Dependent much?

How many of you think you can live a day without any forms of media? And yes, the internet is included. Chances are, none of us can. So why can't we survive without the media? It is because we depend on media. We rely on it to provide us with information and to be up to date with the current events, to entertain us and so on.
Dependency theory states that the more dependent an individual is on the media, the more important the media becomes in his life. What does this mean? Well let's use YouTube as an example.
YouTube has been (and always will be) one of the best things on the Internet. It allows bands and artists to share their music and videos to everyone. Well, everyone can make a 10 minute video and share it. It can be either on something serious or something stupid for the sake of humour. But it's not the videos I'm going to focus on today, it's the comments people make on the videos.
Just go to any video on YouTube popular or not, and you see various types of comments being shared for the entire world to see. It's basically like sharing your opinion. Some comments are good while others are just totally random or hate comments towards the video.
But look closely at some comments and you can find some individuals that share their experiences or personal comments on the videos. Meaning that they can relate emotionally towards the video. I know what your thinking, what does this have to do with the dependency theory? Well it's simple. Some people prefer to keep to themselves. They prefer to type out their feelings than actually saying it out loud. They depend on YouTube videos to feel something, to relate to. They feel as though YouTube is their only "friend". I know you what must be thinking about how miserable a person has to be to depend on YouTube for companionship. Well, some people just prefer to hide behind words. We too depend on YouTube sometimes.Like when we search for videos, either to entertain us or to inform us.
YouTube has become a platform for everyone to share their thoughts. Aspiring singers and dancers share their videos in hopes of becoming the next big thing. Their depending on it in order to achieve success.
Well, all I can say is Youtube pretty much is a platform for everyone. To share their talent, opinions and feelings. And it's here to stay.

Delicatessen. A movie.

When my lecture told us that we were going to be watching a French movie, the only thing I could think of was, "2 hours of romance I'm guessing" Boy, was I wrong.
Delicatessen definitely was not about romance. Well, there was romance but this movie had a little bit of everything. A twister thriller, weird comedy, unusual romance and post apocalyptic horror combined equals to Delicatessen. I'll tell you one thing though, it was the most original movie I've seen.
This movie is set during the post-apocalyptic times in France. Where food becomes a currency. A butchers literally kills for food but things change as an ex clown comes into town looking for a job in the apartment belonging to butcher. Romance soon blossoms among the clown and the butcher's daughter.
The characters in this movie are written so carefully. You can see it easily as each actor portrays certain characteristics. Each scene was filmed with the actors really in character. The minor characters in the movie, although they make no sense, brings something unique to the movie. Let's take the woman who was obsessed with killing herself. She does not have much lines the movie but the way she was portrayed by the actress really sold her part. She constantly tried to commit suicide and fail each time in a humorous way. Each time she popped up on the screen, we were itching to see what would she do this time.
I will not lie, it did take me some effort to watch this movie. I think it was mainly due to the fact that it was in another language. However I most definitely enjoyed the movie. After all, who wouldn't enjoy a movie with crazy characters in it?

9gag that!

"OMG, you should totally 9gag that!" How many of you have heard that phrase and gone, what the hell does that even mean? Am I that old that I don't know what a 9 gag is? Chances are, you are old if don't know what 9gag is by now.
9gag is pretty much the new teenage wasteland. Every single teenager I know 9gag's. So what is it? Why is it so fascinating? Well, 9gag tells the truth and nothing but the truth. It makes fun of society and makes us realize all the stupid things we do in everyday life. You will literally spend hours scrolling down reading every single post.
Based on the social cognitive theory, people learn through observation. They model how they behave in society based on what they see. This so called "modelling" happens in 2 ways. Imitation and identification. Imitation means the audience imitates what they see. Identification is where we respond to the media
9gag is everywhere. People from all over the world are getting into the act. Let's take the "True Story" meme which originated from the show "How I Met Your Mother" We can easily hear people ending their story by going "True story" This is an example of imitation. Besides that, we can see a lot of these meme t-shirts on sale. In addition, a lot of people are creating their own versions of popular meme, for an example the "Bad luck Brian" meme. It literally is everywhere these day.
So what is it that is so captivating about 9gag that it is getting everyone in to it? The main reason is because people can relate to it. Most posts on 9gag are about our everyday life. Those silly things we do that we think goes unnoticed is what that makes us laugh when we see it on 9gag. Some posts make us ponder. Like those post with the picture of the t-rex thinking.
9gag will definitely remain for a long time. As it always will remain relevant to society.

Taboo! Not what your thinking

No, I'm not gonna talk about that Don Omar song that I love dancing to. This is TABOO, the board game. What is it all about you ask? Well, I was just as clueless when our lecturer held up the box and went "we're gonna be playing this game" I was immediately intrigued. Taboo seems like a such weird name for game. Later on I realized that the name fit the game. Taboo is a game that consist of 2 teams. The objective of the game is to identify as many words as you can. Since its a game, there's always a catch. You are required to a select a representative from each group. The person must then get his group to identify as many words as they can in a minute without him saying any of the norm words used to describe the word. For an example, the word is 'Gamble' The player must not say words such as 'casino, dealer' and so on. I was immediately attracted to game. I was itching to play it at that second.
My experience playing Taboo was extremely fun. Even though I had one minute to make my friends guess the words, my brain managed to think of adjectives to describe the words I was given. Even though I stuttered, my friends managed to guess the words which made me feel happy. I loved every single of playing that game.
Playing this game has made me realize how we are so accustomed to our daily routine. We are constantly doing the same routine we've known ever since we could walk. We only live once (no, I'm not quoting YOLO, I can't stand that acronym) maybe we should step out of our comfort zone once an awhile? No, I'm not asking you to go bungee jumping or anything, what I mean is to switch up our routine. Try a new cuisine, take a road trip.
Taboo is definitely one of those games that you need to experience playing it at least once in your life. It tests your mind in ways that I can't explain. You'll never know until you try!

Review of Yalta, Crimea

Travelling is one my passions. It gives me an opportunity to get immersed in various different cultures around the world.
I was fortunate to be given a chance to visit Ukraine. The host country for this year's Euro tournament. The capital of Ukraine is Kiev, where Euro was held. However, there is more to Ukraine than Kiev.
Yalta is a resort city in Southern Ukraine. It is situated on a deep bay facing south towards the Black Sea. The city was highlight world wide after the Yalta conference between the 3 big nations, the Soviet Union, the United States and the United Kingdom in 1945. This was held in the Livadia Palace
Livadia palace was a summer residence of the Russian imperial family in the 1860's. Take one step in it and you feel like a Queen. The first thing you'll take notice of is the beautiful Italian style architecture. You can't help but admire the amount of detail and precision that went into every single curve on the walls. The main attraction in this palace is the room where the 3 presidents discussed the re-establishment of the nations of war-torn Europe. There is even a room with wax figure of the 3 presidents, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and General Secretary Joseph Stalin. Every single room is this huge palace is magnificently made that you can't help but to admire it. The gorgeous Italian style garden just takes your imagination to another world.
Livadia Palace
The wax figures that have implants for their eyes.
Besides Livadia Palace, another castle captured my heart. The Swallows Nest. The Swallows Nest is one of Yalta's main attractions. Why is it so popular you ask? The castle rests on a 130 ft high cliff called the Aurora Cliff just by the sea! The first thing that came to my mind when I laid my eyes on it was fairy tales. It looked exactly like the castles we read in fairy tale story books. There is even a small of part of castle that is off the cliff. Meaning, you are literally standing above water! I truly felt like a princess when I stepped to the edge of the cliff. There used to be a restaurant inside the castle but nowadays, it's just filled with information of the history of the castle. With the Black Sea surrounding you, you feel as though there is nothing wrong with the world.
The Swallows Nest with the Black Sea surrounding it.
Yalta is one of the hidden gems of Ukraine. It's the place to go to escape reality.

G.E.N.R.E.

Genre. It's a french word which means Kind. We all associate with genre when we choose what we want to watch. Even when choosing a book to read, we must choose from a variety of genre to find what appeals to us. Today, I'm gonna talk about genre in music
All of us listen to music. But not everything catches us. There are many genres in music. There are literally hundreds of different genres. Some of them are, rock, pop, alternative, classical, dance, punk rock, electronic, jazz and many more. Recently, people have been going crazy for k pop. I can't stand this genre. Like I said before, people have a variety of options but choose a few.
Some people listen to a little bit of everything. I would say I'm categorized as one of those people. As long as a song has meaningful lyrics, I think everyone can relate to it. Which is why it appeals to everyone. However some song doesn't even need a meaning, a fun beat is all it needs. Let's take the latest craze. Gangnam Style. It practically makes no sense but yet everyone loves it. Why? It has a catchy beat. However, there are a few people that can't stand it. Count me in that group.
No matter what genre we like, we watch or listen to a little bit of everything whether we know it or not. This is due to cross genre. A lot of movies are getting into this.
Genre is a lot like a stereotype. Popular kids are loved by everyone, just like how a movie with a hot actor/actress or an Angelina Jolie movie always has a huge audience. Mean while, all the other movies with amazing storylines, are left out of the spotlight. Same goes to music. Justin Bieber sold 374 00 albums on the first week of release for his 'Believe' album. Meanwhile, Foster The People's album, Torches sold a mere 33,000 copies in the first week. Why? Well, it obvious that Bieber had the upper hand because of his teenage fan base and his cuteness (yes, I may get so much of hate from all you Beliebers but it's true). Like I said before, all the hot kids get to be at the top. But it is a shame, because Foster The People's album was really good. Although it's a different genre, I'm pretty sure it did not do well because Mark Foster and the gang aren't as "hot" as the Biebs. To sum it up, what I really mean is people pay more attention to genre's that they are more used to. This can be easily seen by the music we hear on the radio. Pop music is usually heard and alternative can only be heard once in blue moon as its not as popular. They way the singer looks just addson to his popularity.
Stereotyping degrades people and as for genres, people are so accustomed to one genre. In order for someone to fully appreciate something, they should experiment with the different angles of it. Which means that people should not stick to one genre, but experiment with others. Yes, genre is there to help us, but sometimes we should take a chance and step out of our comfort zone. It will open our eyes to a world of various types genres. And who knows, we might find a new favorite band, book or movie.

Semio-what?

Semiotics. It means how we interpret what we see in text. Everyone's different. Which means, how we interpret things is totally different from each other.
For me to explain it further, I would like to use a music video. This video is by Foster The People and it's called Call It What You Want. First look at the video and you can say so much about it. Most people would go with the basic. The dangers of fame. But I saw it differently. What I saw was, we are all trained to act a certain way in the beginning, but in the end, only some of us discover that we can be what ever we want. Even the song title says it all, Call It What You Want. A band is controlled by their record company. They are trained to look and sound a certain way. In the beginning we can see the band members all sitting in a room saying "we're locked up in ideas" Later on, we see one band member being told that something's missing. Which in other terms means that you need to look a certain way in order to make money. The band being blindfolded means that they are being strung along, going by life as how they were trained to. A few minutes into the video, we see them rebelling. The guy using his hand to shoot paint balls at the girls means that he's freeing himself from the shackles of his company. The paint being splashed and the fireworks all mean victory. The band are free to be who ever they want to be. They can make any type of music and are not bounded to one genre. That is how life should be. We should live life freely and not be on a leash 24/7. As we grow up, we slowly start to see a little freedom been given to us. We learn that we are not bounded to be who we were trained to be, instead we have the freedom to be who ever we want to be. And that is what I manage to understand from the video. What did you get?

Innocence (Baraka post)

Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey. I took this when I visit Istanbul this year. Still my favourite place ever.
On a lazy Friday, my lecturer showed us a movie. It was a non narrative movie. Those kind of movies were never appealing to me. My cousin, who is in the NGO, is really into these kind of movies, so whenever I visit him, I can see all these movies playing on his television. Therefore, I had glimpse of what was installed. As we sat down, I wondered if I could stay awake for the whole movie. I watched the beautiful sceneries the world has to offer. My mind started to wonder. The word innocence starting playing around my head. When I think of innocence, I think of my childhood. My childhood was different than others. Ever since I was born, I moved around Malaysia due to my dad's job. I actually had the chance to live in an estate. It was an eye opening experience even though I can't remember much of it. My mother used to tell me stories of how we had to cross a river to go town. Many kids go to school by a car or bus, my brother went to school by a boat! Being in an estate meant that we could see all kinds of animals. Snakes and monitor lizards were our guests. I remember a cobra slithering right past me! My dad soon got a transfer to Indonesia and we moved to Taiping, Perak. My food heaven. My life in Taiping was pretty average however, I did start going on airplanes. That's when I started to developed an interest for travelling. I spent almost every holiday abroad. I even took longer holidays than everyone else. I would say the worst moment of my childhood was losing my grandmother. It was very unexpected. Imagine, your grandmother cooking for you on Friday and on Saturday, you get a call saying she passed away. I was only 11 when it happened. It's hard losing someone at that age. Especially someone who is very close to you. Anyways, what I wanted to say was, being a child is just like the exotic scenery in the beginning of the movie. It's beautiful, it's unique and it is definitely innocent.

Welcome To My World

The highlight of my life so far
Hello and welcome. The name's Stephanie. I am a Communication student. This week we had our first Media Appreciation class. I was enthusiastic about it because I always appreciated media. Movies and music to me, is an escape from reality. So, what is media literacy? to me it means to be able to think outside of the box. It also teaches us to appreciate and understand media more. Basically, without media, our world would just be a boring place. Being media literate helps us understand the media out there. We can also differentiate between what's emotional to us and the real story. As it was an introduction class, I decided it would be only appropriate if I introduced myself. Growing up, I always moved around Malaysia due to my father's job. I finally settled down in Taiping, Perak, my food heaven. I loved it there. I moved again when I was 11 to Johor. I started high school there. It was an interesting experience because it was a small town that has good seafood. I have a passion for music. I learned guitar and drums by myself when I was 13. I also enjoy dancing. It's a way of expression for me. I tell my stories through dance. I used to compete at a national level but nowadays I help choreograph dance pieces for my friends who compete. Another way I express myself is through song writing. I started writing since I was 13. I love rocking out at concerts too. I've been to plenty and I've met a few celebrities. The moment I will cherish forever was when I met my all time favourite band, All Time Low last year. It was truly a perfect moment when I got hugged by the person I admire the most, Alex Gaskarth. Another one more thing I love to do is travel. I love going to different place and admiring the architecture and scenery. Many people hate long flights but I like it. It's the only time I get to catch up on all the movies I missed! My favourite place that I have visited is Istanbul, Turkey. I've been dying to go back there ever since I left. Being a photography freak, Istanbul was like heaven to me. My camera was never turned off as I kept on taking pictures of every beautiful thing I laid my eyes on. Well, I shall try to keep this short and simple. That was a little introduction bout myself. I hope I did not bore anyone!
