Innocence (Baraka post)

Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey. I took this when I visit Istanbul this year. Still my favourite place ever.
On a lazy Friday, my lecturer showed us a movie. It was a non narrative movie. Those kind of movies were never appealing to me. My cousin, who is in the NGO, is really into these kind of movies, so whenever I visit him, I can see all these movies playing on his television. Therefore, I had glimpse of what was installed. As we sat down, I wondered if I could stay awake for the whole movie. I watched the beautiful sceneries the world has to offer. My mind started to wonder. The word innocence starting playing around my head. When I think of innocence, I think of my childhood. My childhood was different than others. Ever since I was born, I moved around Malaysia due to my dad's job. I actually had the chance to live in an estate. It was an eye opening experience even though I can't remember much of it. My mother used to tell me stories of how we had to cross a river to go town. Many kids go to school by a car or bus, my brother went to school by a boat! Being in an estate meant that we could see all kinds of animals. Snakes and monitor lizards were our guests. I remember a cobra slithering right past me! My dad soon got a transfer to Indonesia and we moved to Taiping, Perak. My food heaven. My life in Taiping was pretty average however, I did start going on airplanes. That's when I started to developed an interest for travelling. I spent almost every holiday abroad. I even took longer holidays than everyone else. I would say the worst moment of my childhood was losing my grandmother. It was very unexpected. Imagine, your grandmother cooking for you on Friday and on Saturday, you get a call saying she passed away. I was only 11 when it happened. It's hard losing someone at that age. Especially someone who is very close to you. Anyways, what I wanted to say was, being a child is just like the exotic scenery in the beginning of the movie. It's beautiful, it's unique and it is definitely innocent.

Welcome To My World

The highlight of my life so far
Hello and welcome. The name's Stephanie. I am a Communication student. This week we had our first Media Appreciation class. I was enthusiastic about it because I always appreciated media. Movies and music to me, is an escape from reality. So, what is media literacy? to me it means to be able to think outside of the box. It also teaches us to appreciate and understand media more. Basically, without media, our world would just be a boring place. Being media literate helps us understand the media out there. We can also differentiate between what's emotional to us and the real story. As it was an introduction class, I decided it would be only appropriate if I introduced myself. Growing up, I always moved around Malaysia due to my father's job. I finally settled down in Taiping, Perak, my food heaven. I loved it there. I moved again when I was 11 to Johor. I started high school there. It was an interesting experience because it was a small town that has good seafood. I have a passion for music. I learned guitar and drums by myself when I was 13. I also enjoy dancing. It's a way of expression for me. I tell my stories through dance. I used to compete at a national level but nowadays I help choreograph dance pieces for my friends who compete. Another way I express myself is through song writing. I started writing since I was 13. I love rocking out at concerts too. I've been to plenty and I've met a few celebrities. The moment I will cherish forever was when I met my all time favourite band, All Time Low last year. It was truly a perfect moment when I got hugged by the person I admire the most, Alex Gaskarth. Another one more thing I love to do is travel. I love going to different place and admiring the architecture and scenery. Many people hate long flights but I like it. It's the only time I get to catch up on all the movies I missed! My favourite place that I have visited is Istanbul, Turkey. I've been dying to go back there ever since I left. Being a photography freak, Istanbul was like heaven to me. My camera was never turned off as I kept on taking pictures of every beautiful thing I laid my eyes on. Well, I shall try to keep this short and simple. That was a little introduction bout myself. I hope I did not bore anyone!
